36dd43f734 Avoid preserving HS url at logout 
When I was talking to Matthew about this the other day, we couldn't think of a
good reason why we should preserve the HS URL at logout. It introduces the
problem that, if a client is redirected after login as per MSC1730, and then
you log out, you'll then get a login screen for the wrong server.

So basically there's no reason to have an mx_hs_url/mx_is_url without an access
token, and we can remove the stuff which preserves it, and the stuff that
attempts to restore it.

6707186edc Change how the default server name and HS URL interact 
They are now independent of each other. If both are specified in the config, the user will see an error and be prevented from logging in. The expected behaviour is that when a default server name is given, we do a .well-known lookup to find the default homeserver (and block the UI while we do this to prevent it from using matrix.org while we go out and find more information). If the config specifies just a default homeserver URL however, we don't do anything special.

a92d2902c4 Add an in-room reminder to set up key recovery 
This adds an in-room reminder above the message timeline to set up Secure
Message Recovery so that your keys will be backed up. If you try to ignore it,
an additional dialog is shown to confirm.

Fixes vector-im/riot-web#7783.

95d15b7863 Fix tinting of notification icon and use a more reliable notification source 
The js-sdk's placement of the notification change was unreliable and could cause stuck notifications. The new location (piggybacking the Notifier) is a lot more reliable.

The tinting has been changed fairly invasively in order to support the changing of the `fill` attribute. What was happening before was the `fill` property would happily get set to the forced color value, but when it came time to reset it it wouldn't be part of the colors array and fail the check, therefore never being changed back. By using a second field we can ensure we are checking the not-forced value where possible, falling back to the potentially forced value if needed. 

In addition to fixing which color the Tinter was checking against, something noticed during development is that `this.colors` might not always be a set of hex color codes. This is problematic when the attribute we're looking to replace is a rgb color code but we're only looking at `keyHex` - the value won't be reset. It appears as though this happens when people use custom tinting in places as `this.colors` often gets set to the rgb values throughout the file. To fix it, we just check against `keyHex` and `keyRgb`.

This achieves the result by counting up the number of highlights across all rooms and setting that as the badge above the icon. If there are no highlights, nothing is displayed. The red highlight on the bell is done by abusing how the Tinter works: because it has access to the properties of the SVG that we'd need to override it, we give it a collection of colors it should use instead of the theme/tint it is trying to apply. This results in the Tinter using our warning color instead of whatever it was going to apply.

The RightPanel now listens for events to update the count too, otherwise when the user receives a ping they'd have to switch rooms to see the change.

ca1313099f Show the IncomingCallBox if the call is for the RoomSubList

Previously the RoomSubList would filter its list of rooms to verify that the incoming call belongs to it. This causes problems when the sub list is being told some rooms don't exist (ie: the list is filtered). It is trivial for the RoomList to instead track which RoomSubList (tag) it should be handing the call off to so we do that instead now. The RoomSubList trusts that the caller has already filtered it and will render the IncomingCallBox if it has an incoming call.

633be5061c Introduce a default_server_name for aesthetics and rework .well-known 
Fixes https://github.com/vector-im/riot-web/issues/7724

The `default_server_name` from the config gets displayed in the "Login with my [server] matrix ID" dropdown when the default server is being used. At this point, we also discourage the use of the `default_hs_url` and `default_is_url` options because we do an implicit .well-known lookup to configure the client based on the `default_server_name`. If the URLs are still present in the config, we'll honour them and won't do a .well-known lookup when the URLs are mixed with the new server_name option. Users will be warned if the `default_server_name` does not match the `default_hs_url` if both are supplied. Users are additionally prevented from logging in, registering, and resetting their password if the implicit .well-known check fails - this is to prevent people from doing actions against the wrong homeserver.

This relies on https://github.com/matrix-org/matrix-js-sdk/pull/799 as we now do auto discovery in two places. Instead of bringing the .well-known out to its own utility class in the react-sdk, we might as well drag it out to the js-sdk.

5fc25fd6ba Only mark group as failed to load for summary 
Currently, any error in the `GroupStore`s several requests can cause the whole
`GroupView` component to hide and be mark the group as failed to load.

Since it is known that group members may fail to load in some cases, let's only
show failed to load for the whole group when the summary fails.

This also strengthens the `GroupView` test by ensuring we wait for multiple
updates for checking results.

This does 3 things:
* Makes the `MultiInviter` check for a user profile before attempting an invite. This is to prove the user exists.
* Use the `MultiInviter` everywhere to avoid duplicating the logic. Although a couple places only invite one user, it is still worthwhile.
* Communicate errors from the `MultiInviter` to the user in all cases. This is done through dialogs, where some existed previously but were not invoked.

Specifically to the 403 error not working: What was happening was the `MultiInviter` loop was setting the `fatal` flag, but that didn't resolve the promise it stored. This caused a promise to always be open, therefore never hitting a dialog.

985966f8be Update async dialog interface to use promises 
Hopefully makes the syntax a bit nicer. Also uses ES6 async import
rather than require.ensure which is now deprecated. Also also
displays an error if the component fails to load rather than falling
over in a heap, which is nice.

2ffc024fab Add a dedicated "Continue" button to the terms auth stage 
The button itself is conditionally enabled because the ILAG dialog already has a continue button. It'd be confusing to users to have 2 continue buttons on the same dialog, so this commit adds the structure required to pass along clicks from the dialog's button down to the UI auth component. 

The other place the continue button would appear is on the register page (not ILAG). The button's style is different here, however that will be improved in a later commit.

975392cbbb Add visible guest warning to encourage login

c9dc273cb0 better native scrollbar width compensation for FF 
instead of having to offset the padding of children of the
autohiding scrollbar container, which gets fiddly quickly,
add a new child to the scrollbar container that gets a negative
margin of the scrollbar width when needed
(on hover and overflowing when overlay is not supported).

This needs an extra DOM element, but as it doesn't do anything weird
layout-wise (like set position), it shouldn't affect styling at all.

It also makes the auto hide scrollbar workarounds completely transparent
to the rest of the code.

e29227db4e bring back "filter rooms" field 
this does the filtering in RoomList instead of RoomSubList, so
we can hide sections that don't have any results.

The filtering does happen with every rerender of RoomList,
but only does something while searching, so the performance
implications are probably negligible.

2dc335798d Repair DevTools button padding by centralizing styles 
This moves the padding styles for dialog content to the .mx_Dialog rule. In
addition, it fixes vector-im/riot-web#7548 where the DevTools buttons had double
padding.

* Re-scan the slate document tree on each emoji replacement since
   doing a replacement will invalidate all the offsets we have.
 * Reset the emoji regex each time we use it.

Some dialogs had their own CSS that prevented the buttons from being placed in the right spot. This has been fixed by using a generic standard for the buttons. The only strange dialog that needed more CSS was the devtools dialog due to the header.

Not all dialogs have been checked - I spot-checked about half of them and verified the CSS manually on an established account. It's hard to get at all the dialogs without convoluted testing.

7383133846 Support parsing matrix.to links in the timeline with ?via= in them 
This ends up being translated to ?server_name= in the matrix-js-sdk, although that has a bug at the time of writing. It converts `server_name: ['a', 'b']` to `?server_name=a,b` instead of `?server_name=a&server_name=b`

For reference: the `viaServers` option is routed through the 'join_room' action to RoomViewStore#_joinRoom which is passed directly to the js-sdk http-api#joinRoom function.

Next steps:
* Fix the js-sdk parsing
* Make the SDK generate matrix.to links with ?via=

c1f51a76dd Update to new version of slate 
Lots of fixes here as a lot of the API has changed (eg. anchorKey /
offsetKey are now anchor.key and offset.key, and collapseFocusToThing
is moveFocusToThing).

Also changes the ref to a function (sorry for lumping this into the

A11y: repurpose more divs into AccessibleButtons. 
With this more of the
controls that look like buttons can be operated via the keyboard and
navigated to by screen reader users. This includes editor buttons such
as File upload, Audio / Video call, Right pannel hide button, Jump to
the bottom timeline button, and some more buttons found in the user
settings.
Also I have added alt texts to some images that in turn label buttons
which these happen to be packed in and removed some untranslated alt
texts from decorative non-actionable images that might add more
verbosity when talking about screen reader user experience.

d74efd09ab Track how far the user travels before dismissing their user settings

Because the onClick was on a fullpage div, the browser was firing it regardless of how far the mouse moved. The onClick event itself doesn't give us any sort of travel distance, or a start point we can use to determine if they clicked a scrollbar or something. This means we have to rely on good ol' fashioned mouse down and up events to see if the user moved their mouse during their click. 

If the user's click starts in a valid container, we record the coordinates. This is so we can easily identify when the user clicks inside something like the settings container itself. When the user releases their mouse, we determine how far they moved their mouse - if the distance is within some threshold (~5 pixels in this case) then we can count it as a click. Because we've already filtered on the component they started their click in, we can safely rely on the presence of coordinates as a flag that they are in the right container, combined with the fact that they can't stray too far before their click not counting anyways.

473f2dd72b pass room to _loadMembersIfJoined, it's called when newState not applied 
_loadMembersIfJoined is called from
_onRoomLoaded < _onRoomViewStoreUpdate, before incoming state
from the store is applied to this.state, so looking up the room
with this.state.roomId doesn't always work, which would cause
the members not to be loaded. Pass in the room instead.

f194f323f4 postpone loading the members until the user joined the room 
when peeking, the members weren't being loaded at all because
the room wasn't available yet,
and the need for loading the members was never re-evaluated after that.

This only loads the members once the user has joined the room,
which also helps to avoid load all the members before an invite
is accepted.

9e64a22884 s/DidMount/WillMount/ in MessageComposerInput 
This fixes the tests that broke with https://github.com/matrix-org/matrix-js-sdk/pull/717

This is because of https://github.com/vector-im/riot-web/blob/master/test/app-tests/joining.js#L63
which prevents the DOM nodes from actually ending up in the DOM, even though the react components
get rendered. This means that WillMount and WillUnmount are called, but not DidMount.

Using WillMount is more symmertrical anyway since the resulting teardown code must be in
WillUnmount (since there is no DidUnmount).

a042f4d0af Do full registration if HS doesn't support ILAG 
ILAG only works on HSes that allow registering without an email
address, so whenever we redirect to the ILAG flow, check what
registration flows the server supports, and if it doesn't offer one
that's ILAG-compatible, prompt the user to go through the full
registration process instead.

This doesn't change all the entry points into ILAG, I'll do that
in a separate commit.

it again, it's not clear how you're supposed to tell the difference
between a reverse-dns tag name and a legacy freeform text tag
(contains a '.'?) - I've left it detecting these as freeform text
for now.

Just do it by fixing the somewhat hacky logic to not break if the
target elements also have additional classes, like they do if the
toolbar is showing (I think it turns out this bug is only that it

ec4c7ffb71 Make ActiveWidgetStore clear persistent widgets 
ActiveWidgetStore is now reponsible for removing the current
persistent widget from the store if it's been removed from whatever
room it was in. As per comment, this leaves us with the store updating
itself in this case but in all other cases, views call setters on the
store to update its state. We should make it so the store keeps itself
up to date and views aren't responsible for keeping the store up to date.

The store now emits events so it can notify PersistentApp when it changes.

77ab7d2589 CreateRoomDialog is rendered before get default_federate value 
In React the order of the execution of mount and render functions
is: `componentWillMount --> render --> componentDidMount`

The `CreateRoomDialog` `render()` function is executed before than
the `componentDidMount()` function so the

  `this.defaultNoFederate = config.default_federate === false;`

; instruction which is executed in the `componentDidMount` function
(in `CreateRoomDialog`) is evaluated always after than the rendering
of the page.

Therefore, the obvious issue is that the values obtained from the
`SdkConfig.get()` function (`config.default_federate`) are obtained
later than their usage on `render()`.

This patch makes this change to fix the described issue:

* componentWillMount instead of componentDidMount

Turns out the z-index was to make the avatar appear above the
EventTile_line even though it comes before in the DOM (it's
absolutely positioned to overlap with it). Instead, just put
it afterwards in the DOM.

b412b9e84d Fix stopPeeking not being called at the right time 
stopPeeking is currently not called when navigating to a joined room
after having peeked a room. This causes the /events endpoint for the
peeked room to be called until peeking another room, even when not
viewing the peeked room anymore.

The current code would only stop peeking if you joining were true (note the nesting),
e.g. when waiting for your join to be confirmed by /sync.

This change might make stopPeeking called also when not needed by there is a guard in
that method to do nothing if not currently peeking.

8f10ee01c6 Implement always-on-screen capability for widgets 
As per https://github.com/matrix-org/matrix-doc/issues/1354

This is whitelisted to only jitsi widgets for now as per comment,
mostly because any widget that we may make always-on-screen we need
to preemptively put in a PersistedElement container, which is
unnecessary for any other widget.

Apologies that this does a bunch of refactoring which could have
been split out separately: I only discovered what needed to be
refactored in the process of doing this.

016e9176f6 Fix room topics/names reseting when UserSetting re-renders 
This reverts a fix to EditableText introduced in
    https://github.com/matrix-org/matrix-react-sdk/pull/1445
which introduced a bug that causes room name and topic to
reset when UserSettings is rerendered because
    `initialValue != this.value`

This also fixes the same bug originally fixed by #1445:
 >fix entering the same thing twice (which had the bug of not
 >emptying the "new" field)

which, in other words meant that clicking "+" when adding a room
alias would not reset the contents of the bottom-most alias in the
list.

The fix is to increment the `key` of the element, causing a new
instance to be mounted instead of passing new props to the existing
one.

01dd387970 Track UISIs in bulk 
Piwik supports sending an event value, which we can use to indicate
cardinality of UISIs to be tracked instead of tracking them individually.

This means we can track them at a lower frequency of (fairly arbitrary)
60s.

Instead of pinging Analytics once per failed decryption, add the failure
to a list of failures and after a grace period, add it to a FIFO for
tracking. On an interval, track a single failure from the FIFO.

2d14d51ecb Handle images without width/height info correctly 
Prior to #1912, height fix up of image events without an `info` in their
content would fail, setting `style.height = null + "px"`.

Now that all thumbnail sizing is done through one path, we can fix the
same problem for all cases (images, stickers, e2e/non-e2e) by handling
images without `info` correctly.

At the bare minimum, we use a null-guard that will make sure an image
without an `info` does not appear in the timeline (as a spinner or
otherwise until loaded). When loaded, we size it like any other image
by using the natural dimensions of the loaded image in place of `info`.

Note that we do not apply the same logic to images that *do* specify an
`info` with `w` and `h` keys. If the aspect ratio of the image does not
match that of the event, we use the one in `info` even when the image
has loaded.

b81e12e4cc Fix exception when opening dev tools 
Apparently draft sometimes gets unhappy when you try to move to the
end of an empty state, so only move to the end if we actually
created a non-empty state.

This will be irrelevant once https://github.com/matrix-org/matrix-react-sdk/pull/1890
is merged, but I have the fix now, and this is probably otherwise
going to annoy me now I'm doing things where devtools is very useful.

94125fb566 Fix widgets re-appearing after being deleted 
Widgets would sometimes briefly re-appear after having been deleted.
This was because of the following race:
 * User presses delete, send POST req, we set `deleting`. Widget hides.
 * POST request completes, we unset `deleting` so widget unhides.
 * State event comes down sync so widget hides again.

This fixes this by introducing `waitForRoomWidget` and using it to
wait until the state event comes down the sync until clearing the
`deleting` flag.

Since we now have `waitForRoomWidget`, this also uses it when adding
a widget so the 'widget saved' appears at the same time the widget
does.

the action "Decryption result" and the name either "failure" or
"success".

NB: This will cause Riot to a lot of networking when decrypting many

 - use dispatch to allow clicks on disabled left/right/middle panel to

A much more maintainable approach would be to use dedicate routing
instead of doing different things depending on what page of the app is
currently being viewed. At the very least we could make the concept of a
settings page generic.

23162c8625 Support third party integration managers in AppPermission 
Alternative integration managers may wish to also wrap widgets to supply a better user experience. With the previous code, it was not possible to use the integrations_widgets_urls configuration option (described in AppTile). AppPermission should use the same logic to determine if a widget is being wrapped, so it can display a helpful URL for the user (instead of the wrapper URL).

836dc8b0ef Factor out all shared logic between MStickerBody and MImageBody 
The benefits of this:
 - One code path for determining spinner/placeholder and it's position
   for loading images/stickers. This includes spinner used in e2e
   decryption of images.
 - Very small definition for MStickerBody, only overriding the minimal
   differences is has from MImageBody.

The disadvantages:
 - Slightly more complicated MImageBody, but hopefully not less
   readable.

b28ed6075b Implement slightly hacky CSS soln. to thumbnail sizing 
As the slightly nicer alternative to fixupHeight being applied once
we actually have a timelineWidth.

The niceness comes from not needing timelineWidth, which means we can
implement at render time with CSS. (Despite still calculating aspect
ratios when we render.)

b6e317647a Fix stickers briefly being 2x the size 
fixupHeight was the only thing actually fixing the size of the
sticker image to be the size we want it rather than the pixel size
of the image, and this was only getting run after the image loaded,
causing a flash of 2x image.

023daef4b7 Refactor GroupStores into one global GroupStore 
Take a step closer to a flux-like architecture for group data, for
the purposes of providing features that require it.

Now the app has a single GroupStore that can be poked to fetch
updates for a particular group.

 * Remove the 'cancel' button: what does it mean to cancel an error?
   In this case, it tried again and almost certainly got the same error.

 * Move 'send bug report' to a button rather than a 'click here' link
 * Add a 'refresh' button which, even if it's no more likely to work,
   will at least look like it's doing something (it's mostly so if you
   don't have a bug report endpoint, there's still a button other
   than the one that deletes all your data).

0323f8ed0c Wrap exception handling around all of loadSession 
The user might (probably does) have a session even if we haven't actually tried
to load it yet, so wrap the whole loadSession code in the error handler we were
using for restoring sessions so we gracefully handle exceptions that happen
before trying to restore sessions too.

Remove the catch in MatrixChat that sent you to the login screen.  This is
never the right way to handle an error condition: we should only display the
login screen if we successfully determined that the user has no session, or
they explicitly chose to blow their sessions away.

f70096b8fa Fix error handling on session restore 
Fix a number of failures that meant the excellent error handling
we had for failing to restore a session didn't work.

1. .catch on the promise rather than try/catch: it's async
2. Explicit cancel method in SessionRestoreErrorDialog that invokes
   onFinished with `false` because even with the catch fixed, this
   was getting the event as its first arg which is truthy, so
   clicking cancel still deleted your data.
3. DialogButtons: Don't pass onCancel straight into the button event
   handler as this leaks the MouseEvent through as an argument.
   Nothing is using it and it exacerbates failures like this
   because there are surprise arguments.

This adds a URL parameter to the cross-origin renderer that makes
it only accept messages from a given domain. This adds an extra
layer of security to the cross-origin iframe and is backwards

8ca1243ecb Add null-guard to prevent RoomAvatar NPE when room is null 
which may have been occuring when peeking into a room that the
client hasn't got a Room object for.

69d9080dd5 Track duration of page changes 
The duration measured is between
 - componentWillUpdate of MatrixChat and
 - componentDidUpdate of MatrixChat.

This does not account for *all* changes to the view that occur
when a room switch happens, for example. But it does at least
capture the difference between switching to a "big" room and
switching to a small test room.

8672b97f9a Improve room list performance when receiving messages 
In summary this makes RoomTiles (and RoomAvatars) do more for
themselves in terms of reacting individually to state changes in
the js-sdk.

Instead of force updating the entire room list for avatar changes
and room name changes, do this in the RoomTile and RoomAvatar
instead. This increases the number of listeners listening to the
matrix client, but allows us to properly implement a
shouldComponentUpdate for RoomTile (because the avatar, name and
notification count are now in component state)

Implement a UI to expose a JS-SDK API for cancelling and resending
a room key request for an event.

This is useful in scenarios where the user has dismissed the request
on their other devices and would like to send the restart the
verification dance manually.
